Because people don’t like to think. So they stick to these stereotypes that are indoctrinated on them by people who know how to think and take advantage of people.

I can actually answer why that is and such. I work in advertising and have to deal with marketing on a regular basis.
When it comes to advertising and marketing your brands it’s better to play it safe. What I mean by that is that it’s better to not take risks and assume that society is still the same as how it was ten years ago, since so many people still have their heads ten years ago or longer on their societal views. What I mean by that is a massive chunk of people are in extreme denial when society changes until it’s to the point you can no longer ignore it. Going off the idea of what girls or females in general believe or in the very matter how women and girls in general act. Take for example skirts and dresses, it’s been relatively only recently where the norm is for women to wear pants instead of skirts and dresses everywhere. It’s also only been relatively recent where society has change to where a tomboy daughter wouldn’t raise eyebrows and people gossiping about her sexuality.
Now really and truly think about your views on how you think society is versus what is actually going on in the world. Is your views on how society is outdated to how society actually is?
Thus the begins the vicious cycle I personally like to the call septic stereotypical cycle. What I mean by that is mass media has to generate a profit, however the problem is most of the time a company plays it safe, the way to do this in dolls and such is to assume that little girls of today are growing up in the same environments as ten years ago or else get a sh*t ton of angry soccer moms angry at you for not enforcing the gender roles of ten years or more ago. Mass media thus then enforces those outdated social ideals onto children raising them with a massive pre-disposition towards outdated societal roles. These individuals then try to raise their own children with their morals, values and views on society as they do.
Now how does that impact toys for children? Easy if you do NOT make toys that fit in line with the parents extremely outdated view of society then the parents will refuse to buy the toys and will lose their mind wanting you dead.

That…actually makes a lot of sense.

It’s stupid and depressing, but makes sense.

I just take comfort in the fact that, at no point in history, has a society ever become more socially conservative and remained that way.

Statistics also show that in the Western world, women have an increasing presence in work force of blue collar trade type jobs and white collar jobs such as corporate executives and politics. Jobs that were traditionally held by men. Don’t forget the military.

Don’t worry over the last few decades the enforcement of gender roles and such has been slipping more and more. Imagine gender roles as a person holding onto a rope, the rope being the importance something is in society and the higher up the more important, whereas the lower the less important. Things that have fallen off the rope are no longer issues in society.

Over the last hundred or so years the idea that women should not be equal to men and shouldn’t be raised other than the stereotypical societal idealization of women has been slipping further and further down. Now it’s on the very last stretch of rope.

The good news is that when the current generation in a couple of years reaches maturity and begins raising their own children they’ll be raising children with practically no enforcement of gender stereotypes cause they were barely raised with any enforcement of gender stereotypes.

Basically give it about five years and the last shreds of gender roles are going to be gone.

Not because of shipping. Because I wouldn’t mind I darker, more violent and action-packed FiM with more adult humor that touches on touchy subjects occasionally.

I tend to agree with you. MLP has such potential to go further in terms of darker subject matter, but, due ton the fact that it’s for “little girls only” (bunk), all we’ll likely see is what we’ve gotten over the past few three seasons.

What aggravates ME is that Hasbro seems to think that all little girls (or kids in general) are 6 to 8 years old, and wouldn’t be able to digest “darker” subject matter in terms of episodes.

Which is, again, a buncha bunk.

Or a “load of horseapples”, as our dear ponies (especially Applejack or Rainbow) would say.

If you send it to Hasbro themselves, they’ll tell you to go to the Hub. This by itself should show the disconnection that they have.

Anyway, just go to the Hub’s website and email them. Might have to try a few times so that you don’t get an auto response, though. They don’t seem to have real people read emails like Hasbro does.

Apparently wasn’t the Hub or Hasbro, was S&P…

@SeraphimDawn
Season 3 was only 13 episodes because the contract between Hasbro and DHX Media originally only called for the bare minimum for syndication. It was only because of massive positive feedback that they renewed the series.

Here’s a side thought. Even if the hub closes down since the show has enough episodes to reach syndication and thus can be aired on other channels. If they were to do that then the popularity would boom and we would probably see it come back.

If anything what I wish is for them to air past seasons on other channels to boost popularity. I’m not saying for them to air the new episodes at the same time on different channels, but rather they should at least when season 4 rolls around have a deal with other channels to air seasons 1 to 3. That way people will still watch the hub for new episodes and people without the hub get to watch past seasons.

>The Crystal Empire episodes almost got completely canned because of the mention of slavery. It apparently took some skillful wrangling to get that one past.

Goddammit,is it really that difficult for Hasbro to grasp that some episodes need conflict to create at least an acceptable plot?

The Hub in general has been a huge money sink for Hasbro and it’s definitely not turning out the way they planned it would. Who knows how it’s going to turn out. They’re being held back by Hasbro ownership, FCC regulations and consumer response to ads. Those three things make monetizing it incredibly difficult, especially when toy sales are down in general and previous expensive ventures were critical and financial failures.

@Rainbow Dash
Hopefully they’ll just make a deal to air it on nickelodeon or another popular channel :[
That’s actually not a bad idea, a merger in that case would be beneficial cause even though nick is garbage for the most part it would cause the popularity of the show to explode and thus sell the toys like crazy.

Indeed, but the problem lies in the fact that it’s costly to create new episodes. If the HUB isn’t getting enough viewers, then Hasbro might see creating further episodes as a bad investment. It’s like a commercial, they want as many people as possible to see it, but right now, nobody is seeing it, so why continue paying to keep it running?

Not exactly the most optimistic train of thought, but one to consider anyway.

EDIT - I guess you can also consider the fact that the number of viewers spikes dramatically when a new episode premiers for the first time, but I don’t know if that’s enough.
