It’s becoming pretty clear at this point that the answer to the princess twilight tag is to do nothing, it’s fine the way it is.

What tag are you talking about for twilight? Aside from her name tag, I don’t know of any tags that applies to every picture of her.

Idunno. I just assumed we’re mad there’s two tags for different stages of twilight’s life.

The disagreement is over whether the princess twilight tag should apply to any picture of Twilight after Magical Mystery Cure, just pictures of her as an alicorn, or just pictures of her acting in her role as a princess of Equestria. My recommendation is a combination of options 2 and 3, which is nearly “all of the above.” I do agree the tag doesn’t make much sense on humanized pictures where she lacks wings or any other indication of her princessly status.

Just because you might ultimately decide not to change something doesn’t mean the conversation wasn’t worth having, nor does someone suggesting a change necessarily mean that something has to, you know?

Back to what I was saying earlier, could we have a tag for Twilicorn before MMC? I remember there being a lot of fan art before an announcement was even close to happening as far back as S1

Should the suicide tag imply the rating semi-grimdark or grimdark topics?
 
Or is it not worth it?

Well, looking at the images under the tag:  
516 images total.  
About 49 lacking both semi-grimdark and grimdark. [Though a few of those I think should be bumped up to semi-grimdark.]  
109 tagged semi-grimdark  
358 tagged grimdark.
 
I don’t think an implication could work in this case, since you can either have the full graphic suicide, with the character dead/dying in the image tagged grimdark.  
Or images where the character is obviously contemplating it: Standing next to a noose, gun to their head, etc on the images tagged semi-grimdark.
 
I think the range of the tag is too great to tie to a specific grimdark rating.

Well I’m thinking that since suicide itself is dark (even ignoring the character dying from it, there is still the thought of them wanting to die), I think it would be useful for a rating or something?

Right. But that rating could be either semi or full grimdark. And about a fifth of the tag is one rating, and 3/5ths another. So the implied tag would have to be edited rather often. It just seems to not be worth the extra tagging effort, and to just let the rating tag be tagged by the uploader normally.
 
Because then you can also have issues of the uploader not knowing the rating tag that it would imply [say, semi-grimdark] and they tag their image grimdark. And now you have both ratings on the image. And unless someone notices that and fixes it, no one would be able to properly edit the tags.  
[You’d think people would notice and remove the extra rating tag, but history has proven they don’t.]

So, back to my question before. Why is it that I’m being told to add the edit tag to my pieces while artists such as Hyperstorm_h don’t? We’re doing what is essentially the same thing, aren’t we?

To be honest, I don’t think you should be adding “Edit”. You are inking and coloring - you aren’t modifying an existing work, you are making a new work from the pencils or linework. I’m still looking at other people’s tagging on their images to make sure I understand the convention.

They do have to tag theirs edit. They’re all edits. You do not give up any rights as an artist by adding that tag, because tags are for searching and hiding, not assigning copyright.

As I said before. Either it shouldn’t be applied to your work. Or should be applied to theirs. I’m just not sure exactly if “edit” qualifies or not.
 
Willing to lean with what @Ciaran is sayin here. We do have the tag colored which could just be used instead.  
Though on a pure technical sense it is editing the original work. I can’t speak for the original artists. But I’m not sure how they would feel not having the edit tag applied to versions of their images they did not make.
 
Right now, the only thing keeping me from going through and adding the “color edit” tag to the art of the other colorists you mentioned before is that we haven’t decided if all of you SHOULD be tagging them edit or not. Once that’s decided the tags can be added to theirs or removed from yours.

There is a cognitive dissonance in the way “Edit” is being used on the site.
 
People who are just editing someone else’s work are not permitted to add an “Artist:[name]” tag to their work, and instead may use “Editor:[name]”. The “Editor” does not have any claim to ownership of the work - they don’t get badges for the edit, and they do not have the right to request a takedown.
 
The work you are doing are not considered “edits” in that regard - colorists and inkers may tag themselves as the “Artist:[name]” on the pieces, you have ownership of the work that you do (albeit derivative of the original artist), and you may request a takedown of your work.
 
However - as you pointed out, you don’t qualify for badges because “-edit” is in the criteria of many of the Artist badges. So you’re stuck as an “Artist” on the site but “Not really” for badges. That is almost certainly not the intended result.
 
At the same time, “Color Edit” is appropriate for your pieces, and this adds both “Color” and “Edit” to your works. The same is also appropriate for hyperstorm_h’s colorings.
 
The simple solution would be to just fix the criteria for the badges and to add the “Color Edit” tag to hyperstorm_h’s works, and other people who work as colorists.
 
Going to get an Admin’s ok before making a change like that though.

Here’s the word from the Admins:
 
For colorists and inkers who have a verified “Artist:[name]” tag, we’ll wave the “-edit” in the badge criteria.
 
The same it true for any creative effort that adds to an image. We aren’t going to modify the rules, we’ll just handle it on a case-by-case basis.
 
Also, “Edit” and it’s variations are appropriate on any pieces that have been modified by someone other than the original artist - so go ahead and add the “Color Edit”, etc, tags to hyperstorm_h’s pieces.

Indeed.  
Since the works are technically edits, the tag does belong on them. But for purposes of determining artist and badges, etc. We ignore the tag being on the image in cases like these.
 
And the tag should be on the images of the other colorists you mentioned.

Excellent. I always felt rather divided about how to tag my coloring stuff, since I both feel like I should be tagging it as an edit because I am modifying someone else’s work, but also feel like it’s unfair to exclude that work from counting towards my contributions to the site. (It’s especially extra frustrating because that stuff scores way higher than my original work, and is the only way I could have ever realistically achieved Best Artist or any other score-based badges.)
