Well ‘stetson’ has reached Generic Brand Name status in other countries. At least here in the chilly under-jimmies of Eurasia, it’s as established as ‘mauser’ for calipers, ‘nessu’ for folded tissue, and ‘hilti’ for hammer drill.

I have literally never once heard anyone use “stetson” instead of “cowboy hat” anywhere except here, which leads me to believe that damnfoolery is responsible. Seriously, it’s really really dumb.

In the rest of the world it’s basically a synonym for cowboy hat. Like Hoover for vacuum cleaner, or yank for anyone from the us.

1/8th of the world disagrees. Cowboy hat’s a cowboy hat here, and vacuum cleaner’s a dustsucker. Bandaid meanwhile is a “plaster”, while gypsum plaster cast is a “gypsum”.

Personally I’ve never seen an artist tag used like this and I’m pretty sure it should be removed, but just in case:

IMO that is tag misuse. Credit can be given in description. Even if intellectual property tagging were to be implemented it certainly should not share the artist tag namespace.

A quick question about when it comes to making shipping tags, how do they make the tag official? Do ou hold a poll or someone to pic a name for a ship, or do you just see what the most common name for it is and use that one?

Ok, thanks. Would have just removed it myself, but it’s hot and I can’t properly brain today, so I thought I’d ask first.

Something I noticed with a few of the artists tags like Artist:mostazzathy is that they have a little description on them and what they draw.
 
I’m wondering if this applies to all artists, or is it only the more popular or noticeable ones? Because it would be nice if you got a brief description of the artist when you click on the tag, something like “This artist mainly draws anthro and shipping art and is the mod of this tumblr.” or “This artists colours in sketches of these fetishes”.
 
I’m sorry if this sounds like a dumb idea or anything.

It’s only for those who have submitted a description. We’re not providing any kind of free copywriter service.

Artists can submit their own descriptions any time they want. Why would that cause a “problem”?
 
Unless what you were suggesting is that someone should would go through all of the artists on the site and subjectively describe what they see - that would be pretty subjective, don’t you think?

I thought that when Depry said “free copywriter service”, it meant that the staff would be flooded with people trying to ask for descriptions on their artist tags.
 
And what do you mean y submitting their own descriptions?
 
And I didn’t mean for random people to add in a description, I meant that if a user here is also an artist, they could ask the mods to add in a brief description on what they do and any other relevant info on their tag description.

If an artist wants a description added to their tag, all they have to is submit the description they would like either by reporting themselves or by posting in the Tagging Discussion forum and we’ll do it.
 
Ideally, they also include a link to an “Ideal example image that is appropriate for tag descriptions (rated Safe)”
 
If that doesn’t answer your question, then please describe your question in more detail.

I think that answers it. So artists here can request a description for their tag if they make a thread here or ask a mod about it? (Or by “reporting themselves”, do you mean something else?)
 
So for example, if someone posted a thread there asking for a description and they put in something like “Hello, I want to add in a description for my artist tag. Can you add in that I mainly draw anthro’s and humanisations, and that I mainly do shipping art? Here is a link to my work: >>image”, would that be ok?

Report yourself using the button available on your profile page, select a reason of “Other”, and in the text box provided say you want a description added to your artist tag. Let us know what you want for both the short and long descriptions, and the image ID (the number of the image in the URL for it, or a link to the image) that you’d like used as your “Example image” - please select a safe-rate image.
 
Please type the description as you would like it to appear. Asking us to “Make it look nice” or something like that will give you varying results depending on the time of day, the staff member who makes the change, and the amount of alcohol we’ve had. For me, the more Scotch I’ve had, the better it will sound. For others, your milage will vary.
