There’s her “stubbornness,” as well. As shown in some eps like “Apple buck season” where she was too stubborn to admit she needed help, and such.
 
And I agree with Serious B, I feel all the characters have some hidden depths.

Last time the writers tried to give AJ an additional flaw to compliment her stubborness, pride and prejudice, the fandom threw a collective shitfit, because “muh level-headed AJ!”.

Your anti-Futtershy bias is pretty evident, but it’s not something that surprises me, seeing how majority of this fanbase cannot grasp the idea that shyness is a mutli-layered issue, and making Flutts overcome hers in a span of as single episode would not only be unrealistic, but also dishonest towards those who actually suffer or have suffered from crippling shyness in their lives. Besides:
 
Dragonshy wasn’t about overcoming shyness, but overcoming fear for the sake of her friends. And it was a real, serious fear - that of a full-grown dragon.
 
HF and FV were similar in that they both focused on Fluttershy’s performance anxiety - something many people suffer from, even if they aren’t exactly shy in standard social situations.
 
PYHD was about the dangers of over-assertiveness and how it’s more dangerous to your surroundings than just being a shy doormat.
 
Then there were episodes such as the Phoenix one (I forgot the title), in which the conflict had its roots not in Fluttershy’s shyness but - again - in her overconfidence (this time overconfidence in her veterinarian skills), or the one with Breezies, where the issue was centered more around her overprotectiveness towards weaker creatures, even though ironically that overprotectiveness can hurt those, whom she tries to protect from harm.
 
Fluttershy - just like AJ - is a far more complex character than people care to admit, but for some reason everybody and their mother likes to simplify the issues these two go through even though they’re pretty evident to anyone who cares to spend a little time analyzing their episodes. But no one ever does, cause everyone instantly dissmises them as “more of the same” and thus makes the circle complete.

Are you kidding? Rainbow Dash was playing the role of Rarity’s sidekick. But she was a great sidekick, and the episode really let both characters make the best possible use of their screen time.

I don’t know Rarity kinda stole the show, if you ask me. Especially those awesome outfits, and hammyness.

How is this not swimming in downvotes? This was a RARIDASH episode! Get it right! xD

Good point. I guess my view on development is seeing a character be almost different from the start to current/end of a series. Kidna like Zuko/Aang from avatar.

AJ has shifted as the series has gone on. I’d say it’s development. She’s the team mom. The most motherly and supportive of the mane 6. And the one to take lessons she’s learned to heart.
 
I love AJ, but in her current form she’s not that much of a starring character. She’s a support character. Using her wisdom and abilities to help the rest of the cast. This is the result of her taking her lessons to heart. She’s become too flawless. The characters need flaws in order for stories to happen that mean anything.
 
If the cast kept learning from their mistakes, they wouldn’t make mistakes and thus any story involving them would just make them look perfect and mary sueish.

Seriously, that wasn’t something I could reply to as rapid-fire as they were made. That’d just be saying ‘no you’re wrong’ without mentioning why, which is sort of the entire point. Which is why I didn’t leave this at that first line, because what would the point of that be? Your initial statement didn’t really need anything else to say what you wanted to say, but to accurately reply to it, I did have to expand on it here. Same with Corrderio’s. I don’t just say ‘lol no ur wrong’, I explain myself, and won’t apologize for or change that.

Okay, most of that was not asking for character development, but character derailment. Character development is not about losing or radically altering character traits, and most of what you mentioned have no reason to be changed. There are some points in that list where they have room to grow, but you don’t sound like you’re looking for growth so much as alteration. You want to cut out character traits, and possibly replace them with something else. That’s not how characters work - that’s not how people work - and if that’s the sort of character growth you’re looking for, maybe… fiction in general… is not for you?
 
Twilight will always be high on friendship - hell, she’s the reigning princess of friendship, literally - and she will always hold her mentor and idol in high esteem. These will never change, nor should they, as that would be destroying key concepts of her character.
 
Rarity will probably always be dramatic, and who the hell cares? A strong part about her character is how passionate she gets, and that has both highs and lows, as it should. Yes, sometimes this leads to her being kind of bitchy, when she gets caught up in negativity. But if you think she’s still the same about it as she was early on, you really haven’t been paying attention.
 
Pinkie Pie is… my least favorite of the Mane Six. But if ‘batshit insane’ is what you’re taking out of her character, you don’t understand Pinkie at all. She moves to the beat of her own drum and seems to have a reality slightly out-of-sync with everyone else’s, but there is method to her madness - her method, but a distinct and clear one. If you cut that out, you would be cutting out Pinkie herself.
 
Rainbow Dash is absolutely a fangirl. And she’s got pride in her skills. Pride built up through practice and talent, that still fails to hide her self-doubt - case in point, this episode where she became freaked that she might actually be responsible somehow. However, she has both tempered her ego and her self-doubt - they still exist, but in more manageable forms. That’s character growth, not removing the traits entirely.
 
Fluttershy… is the slowest-growing of the group, yes, and the most prone to regression. But even she’s starting to break through. What she learned from the Breezies she applied to Rainbow Dash - when RD’s actions started having negative impacts, she stepped up and said how it was straight-out. She’s learning assertiveness and how to stand up - and that will not and should not overwrite her other traits.
 
You didn’t say anything about Applejack and I’m bored so I’m going to skip her too.
 
You’re not asking for character growth. You’re asking for character derailment. You’re talking about removing flaws, when having them is what makes a character - well I was going to say interesting, but really, that’s what makes a character a character. I am, in fact, outright saying you’re wrong - not that the characters should grow and in fact could grow faster, but in that anything you brought up is something that should ever happen. Your problem isn’t with the characters’ growth, it’s with the characters themselves, and that’s not something the show can ever fix for you.

It was about both of them, though I will say if anything Dash got kinda overshadowed but almost anyone Rarity co-stars with kinda does most of the time, her force of personality is just too great.

Well I guess to each their own. Not saying you’re wrong, but it just seems like every time the M6 learn lesson, they forget it the next episode over or it’s something that never gets brought back up again.

Personally i think it’s Hasbro as the Show writers are very talented.

Well it was a shared episode but it’s kinda easy to see it this way too. Rarity is still the only character who hasn’t gotten any real character development and is more of a comic relief. It’s like the writers don’t know what to do with her other than that. So many times we have gone through the same route where Rarity disregards the feelings of her friends only to later regret it and feeling bad for a moment.. just to repeat the same thing over and over again later. Her drama queen moments may have been slightly humorous at first too but now it’s just plain annoying how she overreacts to everything.
