What would you say to cisgender female who says women have all the same rights as men in this day and age, and even have it better than men because they aren’t expected to fight in wars or do other dangerous jobs?

There’s a 99% chance that such a woman is also white, straight, wealthy, and has never worked a day in their life. If they have, they’re likely living off wingnut welfare by saying shit like this.

It’s easy for the most privileged women to pretend as if oppression is gone (or rather, that the oppression currently being experienced isn’t “that big a deal”). They also tend to be women who deny the existence of rape culture or the wage gap, either through a genuine belief or through trying to be one of the “cool girls” to the alt-right.

If I’m being honest, I do not object to people and things that stand in the way of social/intellectual progress. They are, after all, only adhering to their basic nature. My objection is to the all-too-frequent unwillingness of social/intellectual progress to simply shove past them.

To that end, I wouldn’t say anything to this kind of mouth-breathing idiot. I’d just say “Shut up, Anya” and knock her out of the way and continue working to make the world a better place regardless of her objections.

If Looney Turtle actually cared about how he and the others are perceived, they would either split off and form their own group, or kick the bad actors out from it.

The reason he and the others don’t want to do this is because it would inherently require severing personal and professional relationships with bad actors like Lightning Bliss, Brawny Buck, Josh, and Aguilar.

Looney Turtle wants to continue beings friends with them while ignoring everything they do, and also receive no blowback for such monstrous apathy. It’s exactly what Josh wanted: To do nothing and expect to get away with ignoring everyone’s complaints.

If he’s not like the others, he has to prove it. Because so far the message is clear: Fascists, radical conservatives, bullies, abusers, serial liars, bigots, predators, and pedophiles are welcome in his circle and none of those facts are deal breakers for him. And he’s annoyed that someone isn’t ignoring that.

What he’s actually upset about is that I won’t single him specifically out as a good person. And I don’t do that because that would be a lie. If he has such a problem with me lumping him in with the filth, maybe he should stop demonstrating that I am right to do so.

Seriously, every time you take those much-deserved jabs at people like Josh, Dr.Wolf, Silver Quill, etc, my day gets a little brighter knowing at least some people out there don’t fall for their crap.

Intent only matters if you learn from your mistakes, which Shartlight Glimmer does not. If you fuck up, you admit you fucked up as a starting base. She’s never left that starting base and often doesn’t even step up to the plate on that one.

Just out of curiosity, what are Lily’s thoughts on Saturn Star? Scrolling through, they seem to be one of Lily’s far more vocal and consistent detractors, albeit that’s mostly only on here from what I can see. If not Lily, then yours, Ebara.

That’s the big reason I can’t stand Starlight. I put in a lot of effort to change from the complete and total asshole I was at the start of my career, and I’ve known too many people (Josh, Brittany, Most of the Analysis Community) who sulk and make excuses and expect everyone else to just blindly accept that.

And so when I see people praise Starlight for all of this and calling Sunset overrated, dear fucking lord do I want to bludgeon these cretins.

The show staff encouraging them is, as far as I’m concerned, abhorrent.

I don’t actually have high standards for cartoons. I only expect two things.

Don’t teach kids something completely fucking reprehensible, and  
Be entertaining.  

I don’t care if a cartoon has good morals, lessons, or themes. Just so long as it doesn’t have bad morals, lessons or themes. Just be fun, and don’t teach kids to tolerate abuse. That’s not a high bar to clear, but so many shows are deliberately refusing to clear it out of a delusional belief that this makes it more likely to be “taken seriously” by people who don’t matter.

Definitely this.

Author - “There needs to be more gays in [GENRE]” 
Author - [Starts Writing Novel in GENRE] 
Author - [Finds Excuse To Not Have Gays] 

I tend to roll my eyes when fellow authors talk about the rare sci-fi, fantasy, or other genre of books that bother to glance in the direction of LGBT relationships and praise them and hold them up as examples of why that genre needs more gay representation, but then when they start writing their own book in that same genre suddenly they’ve got an avalanche of excuses as to why they won’t do the same.

It showcases that they’re all talk.

This goes beyond literature of course. I’ve talked before about how Steven Universe uses Nonbinary as a way to avoid committing to anything, which is why only Steven’s fusions are considered nonbinary.

Think about how despite being a fusion of both a boy and a girl, Stevonnie leans hard on the feminine end of the spectrum, and compare that to the Giant Woman song where Steven explicitly says “But if it were me, I’d really want to be, a giant woman!”

Quit a few people paired those together and thought “Hey, maybe Steven’s a trans woman…” considering he’s half gem and the gems are monogendered. That’s when Sugar panicked and smacked down Nonbinary to avoid having to address that.

Because heaven forbid Steven be actually interesting.

This is the reason that despite spending so much time with the humans, none of them get to be nonbinary (or gay for that matter) because Sugar doesn’t want to actually commit to something like that and has so far only used it as an excuse to not think about cool ideas for Steven’s character that would actually require work.

Congratulations Steven Universe. You have created a situation where a character being Nonbinary is the least interesting explanation you could offer. I don’t know how on earth you managed to do that. That should be literally fucking impossible! Nonbinary people are, by their very definition, interesting and cool and you managed to make that boring. That’s like trying to climb a set of stairs and getting hit by a train! How’d you even do that?! WHY ARE YOU SO BAD?! 

Hell it wasn’t until Season 5 that someone actually referred to Stevonnie as “They” in the actual show.

One thing I’ve always been disappointed about is that Nonbinary (and to a lesser extent Asexual) representation tends to only come around when the writer desperately wants to avoid writing a trans or gay character, and as a result it’s often hastily thrown in with no thought. And Nonbinary and Ace people deserve better than just being a convenient excuse for writers with cold feet.

This is why I love SciSet Diary, actually. Adge decided to make Twilight asexual, and actually did something with it and explored it and how it relates to Twilight and Sunset’s relationship. And it was great and I fucking loved it. It’s the best arc in that entire comic’s lifespan.

I really wish that these two weren’t the go-to excuses for brogressives who can’t put their money where their mouth is.

See, usually “all-female cast” in an anime means that the weebs get titillated by a wide arrange of girls flashing their bits and doing poses at the camera (or, in rare cases, being all cutesy instead). Here, the weebs saw the art style, heard the horrible “diversity” word, saw women in the staff (and weebs HATE when women work on their shows to the point of harassment and hate mail) - and went ballistic. Basically, their dongs aren’t happy, so it’s a SJW propaganda, and must be destroyed.

Honestly… I’m a female anime fan and I’m looking foward to that crunchyroll anime. It looks cute and harmless to me? I don’t see what the big deal is with the backlash… Is that a bad thing? I feel kind of intimidated by the hate like if I watch it and like if and admit to it am I going to be attacked? :(

The anime industry has spent a very long time pandering to socially maladjusted men and women. It’s why there’s so much blatant misogyny and perv-pandering all across the medium. It’s so commonly criticized that many anime Youtubers are making videos about “what is the right amount of fanservice?”

And when a medium spends that much time pandering to that kind of person, it becomes the majority of their audience. It’s where far-right jackasses go to get their echo chamber.

And now that it looks like the medium is doing what it should have done a long time ago and trying to reach out to a less stagnating audience, they’re doing the same thing they did a few years ago regarding video games: Throwing a massive tantrum at the prospect of having another medium stop reinforcing their prehistoric values.

I understand that it can be scary to openly like something progressive when you’re in a mire of alt-right fuckheads. Which is why you won’t have to. I’ll do it.

Hearing that weebs are losing their shit over something and calling it “SJW Propaganda” makes me intrigued. And since I’ve already got Glass of Water scripts in the works for LWA and Cardcaptors, maybe it’s worth a look.

I mean you’re crazy if you think I’m going to ignore the medium doing what I’ve been saying it should do for ten years.

Even though large amounts of anime are garbage, and many are in fact grossly sexualized, there are certain anime that stand on their own. Have you ever watched ’ Revolutionary Girl Utena’? About 1 in 100 shows are able to escape the rampant sexualization.

1 in 100 is too low a ratio to bother with. It’s the Steam Greenlight issue all over again. A 1% gem rate is an indicator that the medium is garbage.

I seem to recall you saying SJWs don’t exist but I don’t remember why. My interpretation is that they do exist to counter balance the extremists who oppose any sort of diversity. The term have a negative connotation but usually the people who get attacked as being such are fighting for legitimate causes which is needed because it’s hard to achieve change while being passive. Am I just completely missing the point of SJW actually means?

“SJW” means “Far Left Extremist” IN THEORY

The problem is that to the alt-right, brogressives, “centrists” and so called “Classical Liberals”, any amount of left-wing ideology is “extremist.” To the Alt Right and most weebs, George W Bush would be an “SJW” because he’s more left-wing than Donald Trump.

“Extremism” generally means very little because oftentimes “extremism” means “More left/right than me.” It’s the brainless ideology that fills the heads of most self-described “moderates.”

Extremism itself isn’t even the problem. Ideas themselves are the problem. Abolishing slavery was an extremist position. It was also the correct position. This recent obsession with “balance” and “moderate” is creating political illiteracy.
