MMX8 is pretty nice to play with some sweet music, though 2 ride stages was a bit much.
 
In the whole series, I think X5 has the best soundtracks overall.

No prob. I grew up as a Nintendo kid but even I know that the Sega Genesis has an amazing soundfont.

Yeah, poor stupid XOver. I feel bad for the fact that the Mega Man in this game was partly made by Dr. Cossack. I think Cossack deserved his own “Mega Man” (And I do remember reading about Duo going to have that honor before he was decided as an alien robot.) and its sad to see that his Mega Man is in a game that is despised by everyone.  
And yeah, Archie Mega Man does kick ass. ;)

I have nothing against the X series or the other incarnations of Mega Man as well. They just don’t interest me as much as the Classic series. I just prefer to let other people enjoy them. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t tried them before, I did buy the Mega Man X Collection for Gamecube so I could experience the majority of the X series.

My favorites are the NES and throwback (9 & 10) games but 7 and 8 are good in their own right as well. Mega Man and Bass on the other hand…..I didn’t have a good time with it.

Even though I love MM9 and MM10, removing charging and sliding were my biggest complaints with those games as well.
 
They were taken out because Kenji Inafune and his staff thinks that charge shots and sliding “takes away the simplicity of Mega Man’s control”. I respect Inafune’s opinion but it should have been a freaking option for the players to decide if they want to use them or not. And giving them only to Proto Man doesn’t solve things either.

Yeah, they add a layer of complexity to the game, but that makes it BETTER, they’re not overbearing and overly complex mechanics, they’re basic, almost instinctive moves.
 
Need I go over how much better the Boss Battles are in the X series because how how intense they can make them due to X’s extreme mobility?

If your logic for taking out the charge shot and slide is similar to Arin’s logic in concluding that the whip in Super Castlevania IV is OP, you better think again.

Well, his logic did make sense, in that the special weapons didn’t really make much sense since the whip did pretty much everything that they did.

I couldn’t agree more.
 
Now it is possible to play MM3 to MM&B without using the slide or charge shot except against required obstacles and enemies, but that should be a choice by the player, not the developer.  
But no, everything was made to cater to Mega Man 2’s “holy standards”. If that was the case, then why is Rush not replaced with Items 1, 2 and 3?

Yeah, look, I like Mega Man 2 too, but it wasn’t because of how “pure” the experience was.

I think every series has their own standards about what makes things work, especially when it comes to making things more convenient for the player to take advantage of.

Well, he did say that trying to focus on a game is hard when you’re trying to think up commentary at the same time, since the commentary is one of the things that the Game Grumps are known for. I can understand it if that was the reason but its still no excuse to blame the game for your screw-ups.

So do I. Its a good game in its own right. I respect and admire how it was the game that got the series going and how the developers made it in their spare time. I think that’s very inspiration for anyone who wants to make video games. But should it be considered the “highest standard” for all Mega Man games should play? Heck no. I personally thought that the later games gave much more to offer. Hell, I even love Mega Man 1 more than 2.

Because Arin used to know a thing or two in the past, then he traded all his notion of game design to become DarksydeDiePie.
 
I mean, compare and contrast Sequelitis 2 and 3. 2 is a meaningful analysis of the game design in Mega Man, 3 is just him bitching that Ocarina of Time isn’t A Link to the Past and that Skyward Sword sucks even though it doesn’t.

Yeah, it feels ever since Game Grumps came around, we got a mixed blessing. We got an often fun LP series but Arin’s “knowledge” of game design just plummeted into the pits of hell as time went by.
 
Oh yes. His Mega Man Sequelitis was very funny and interesting to look at when comparing gameplay styles. Not to mention, Mega Man X is one of the few games he doesn’t suck at.  
But when Zelda Sequelitis came around, dear sweet god, I felt like I was watching ProfessorMegaman’s fapping fuel.  
Now the sad thing is that I REALLY DON’T WANT TO AGREE WITH HIM on Skyward Sword but….the game kinda bores me. I bought Skyward Sword so I could get back into the Zelda series because of how the series is held up among gamers everywhere but to this day, I STILL haven’t finished it. Why? Lack of interest. Now I don’t think Skyward Sword is a bad game, it looks fine. But I just got easily bored about how long it took to get myself from point A to point B. Not to mention, the controls have a strict learning curve. I’m aware that everything was programmed to make it feel like you were in Link’s shoes, the whole defining point of the Wii’s control scheme. But everything mostly felt tedious…..  
I seriously don’t want to become one of THOSE retro gamers who hate nearly everything when it comes to modern games. And with Zelda, people often hold it up as the ideal Nintendo franchise, like that you aren’t a true Nintendo fan unless you like the Zelda games and I’ve always felt so pressured about that belief. Not to mention how the majority of game franchises I like are “kid-oriented” and Zelda is the only Nintendo franchise that most gaming comics will even bring up (with the occasional Metroid) because its the only serious franchise Nintendo has.  
I could go on about this topic but I’ll just stop here for now.

True, but nobody wants to see something that slick just disappear; hell, the same logic could be used against Sonic’s spindash, but everybody would be pissed if that disappeared. Why would the charge shot and slide get a free pass?

I actually found a guy who had gripes with OoC somewhat similar to Arin’s, but who made a more in-depth, more credible review.
 
Also, as far as I’m concerned, the first game in the X series is the “highest standard”, as in they didn’t even use everything implemented in X’s debut in the successive games and the franchise eventually degenerated to the point where a couple of MM2 rehashes are considered to be great games. WTF? What frickin’ happened? Remakes aside, where’s my MMX+? Even the Zero series traded Megaman’s claim to fame for an elemental system that’s only got three lousy elements to choose from. I like slicing shit up as Zero as much as the next guy, but I wanna do so in a game with copied weapons and stages that change after you’ve beat a boss, dammit!

I know he’s not meant to be taken serious, but that’s not the problem, the problem is that people still do and that he has the power to spew out whatever he feels like doing. If he was a nobody I wouldn’t give a rats ass about what he thought, but considering he has millions of subscribers, that kind of changes it for me personally. Exactly the same thing with Vinny from Vinesauce imo.
 
But then again, Vinny is always grumpy.
