I really hope she doesn’t become one of the mane six, but rather a side character.

Ya know, that almost makes those last ten minutes of season 5 bearable. Almost.
I don’t know about Bates, but you know what Kruegar and the Governor were? Psychopaths. Y’know what happened to them? Killed. (Several times for Freddy)
They weren’t forgiven, given full pardon and allowed to roam around freely, nor did they suddenly turn around after a mere minute of someone telling them it IS possible to have more than one friend in your life.
Also, nobody’s simplifying Starlight’s motivations. She said it herself: her friend moved away. The S6 premiere gave THREE CHANCES for Starlight to embellish on that, but each time she literally admitted that’s all that happened - he moved away, she made no effort to contact him, and then she dedicated the rest of her life to revenge on the world.
There’s nothing TO simplify, and that’s the problem. The writers just got fucking lazy. Hell, it sort of makes me think she wasn’t MEANT to be redeemed but they were forced to change it at the last minute. Given how great the rest of the episode was I wanna give them that benefit of the doubt.
Norman Bates: He had mom issues.
Freddy Kruger: All he wanted to do was love little girls
The Governor: He just wanted to be respected/get revenge for his zombie daughter.
Its pretty easy to simplify motivations. :3
When I inevitably become a villian of some sort, it’ll be something that could be easily fixed if I had normal social skills or real life experience.
That doesn’t mean force a pony on us with an minor problem, make her a psycotic villain then cram her into the role of friendship student 2.0. Make a single episode about someone who’s grumpy ‘cause a friend moved away by all means, that’s all that plot-thread deserves.
Starlight’s motivation killed her entire character for me. In the end, it literally does boil down to: ‘She’s a dick’.
’don’t be a dick for insifnigicant reasons’?
You mean the main point of a series called “FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC”,a point that other member of the mane 6 are also learning.
Yeah””””“no potential for the characters”””””
I meant she had a mental break as a child which was poorly done and just makes her an insane lunatic who goes crazy at the drop of a hat and she “stole” cutie marks because they simply weren’t allowed in her village and as we saw some of the villagers had thoughts of getting them back but were to afraid because they knew they would be punished and as we saw that’s exactly what happened as one of them said it was all his idea and he got the reconditioning room which she probably used a lot. So in a sense she did steal them because she refused to give them back when they wanted them.
@Pagan
“she also went crazy and stole their cutiemarks”
This never happened. This was just a shitty retcon by the S6 premiere that just killed any interesting trait that she had. She never stole them. They offered and gave them up.
Only Cutie Marks she stole were the Mane 6.

I think what annoys me more is just how much of a bad OC she resembles.
Okay if that’s what you want think I’m not going to argue with you.
Being the leader of a village is not the same as being friends with everyone in it. Nor was Twilight exactly a recluse. She was entirely capable of interacting with other ponies, she just considered doing so not as important as her studies in magic.
In a way they are very similar, because they both denied themselves friends or the possibility of friendship (Twilight because she put more value on books, Starlight because she was afraid of losing another one). Twilight, of course, would eventually come to realize the importance of having them, much as Starlight is now.
Forever alone, lol. XD
She had ponies who considered her their friend but Twilight didn’t see them the same way, she forgot they even existed until season 5.
‘Recluse with no friends.’
Except Twilight was a recluse with no friends Starlight was the leader of a town of which they liked her they even said they trusted her she has experiences with making friends her problem was the cutie marks which is over all she has to do now is everything she has already done but this time not steal ponies cutiemarks, she already social and is seen by others as charming she has nothing left to learn in terms of friendship.
And Twilight had five friends by the end of season 1 episode 2. That didn’t mean there weren’t still lessons for her to learn. Starlight, much like Twilight, has made changes to her life and has friends for the first time since she was a little filly, but there are still a myriad of nuances and conflicts she has no experience with. And much like her new teacher, she’s going to have to go out and experience them if she is truly going to understand friendship.
Well, once she learns to stop being mopey over her screw-ups that literally no one cares about, maybe she can eventually be Twilight’s understudy.
Not much Twi can teach her, really. One of them is far better adjusted.

Exactly and as we’ve seen she’s very persuasive she gathered an entire town and they saw her as their leader she also went crazy and stole their cutiemarks but that’s already been dealt with and she knows she was wrong to do that so she’s social and well rounded when dealing with others her problem was just her philosophy which she no longer believes in she can go out and do anything she wants and make many friends on her own she has nothing to learn or do, if they try to reuse old lessons but for her that’s going to feel like a cheap cop out.
The only thing she really has to work on is her insane overreactive tendencies which isn’t something a lesson can fix it’s wired in her brain something she’ll have to handle herself, she really has nowhere left to go in terms of the story.
Yeah, that’s another issue with her character. She changed her tune and is now happily friends with the M6… What else is there to learn other than ‘don’t be a dick for insifnigicant reasons’?
Medical professionals don’t technically use the term ‘sociopath’ in the first place. It’s a colloquial term, i.e. it makes pedantic pseudo-intellectual windbags look retarded when they try to argue precise definitions.
@Pagan
Think? We already know this. Looking forward to seeing her do so, she already has and she was already best friends with all the main six before season 6 even aired her story line is already at the end she has nothing left to learn or gain, the writers finished her narrative relevance before it even got a chance to start.
And all of this can be ultimately dismissed as “Starlight glimmer in the season 6 premiere is a completely different character from the season 5 premiere.”
Before her redemption though, completely accurate to her character.
