There’s no denying the writers wanted her to shine in those two instances, but unlike the EQG special, there were clear reasons for her to be the one to address the conflict in both the season 6 finale and “A Royal Problem”.

I disagree, I think that was what they had in mind in those episodes especially the finale, she’s been put on a pedestal by the writers and have started to turn her into the focus, this special was a good example of overextension of the character.

Not sure how accurate it is to describe her with creator’s pet, but I can assure you her role in the special was far more contrived than her role in those two instances. I can’t say about the special, but that certainly wasn’t what DHX was gunning for with the season 6 finale and “A Royal Problem”.

I haven’t seen the specials, but seeing how she was used in Celestia episode and Season 6 finale, i’m guessing it was another case of Creators Pet trope. Writers and directors of DHX think that any kind of exposure of a new character will make everyone love her.

If you say you aren’t a Starlight hater, I believe you. But when you make comments like that reply to me and image posts like this one, though, don’t be surprised if people think you are one.

If it was canon then Twilight would crush on pony Flash Sentry or she would mention Sunset Shimmer in the tv series.

Not necessarily. When’s the last time Twilight mentioned Moondancer, or Starlight mentioned Sunburst, or any number of the Mane 6’s friends and family members that either get ignored between appearances or show up once and then disappear like they never existed?

Exactly how widespread the complaints would be is still largely dependent on the situation. If there is a legitimate and valid reason for Starlight and not somepony else–such as Cadance and Shining Armor–to save Flurry Heart, then I’d imagine the only ones complaining specifically about her character in that scenario would be those who were already determined to hate her.

While Starlight has gotten her moments to shine, it hasn’t quite reached the point where she can be considered “the savior of everybody and everything”. Barring the (questionable) EQG special, the only other instances where she has actively saved others was the season 6 finale and arguably in “A Royal Problem”. The other potential contenders–the season 6 opener and “No Second Prances”–don’t really fall into the same vein, as it was ultimately Sunburst who knew how to resolve the conflict in the opener, and Trixie put herself into mortal danger in NSP.

That’s part of the problem though, she’s constantly the savior of everybody and everything now, so yeah people would get upset if she saved Flurry instead I don’t know her parents.

It seems your hatred of Starlight is so great it’s making you blind. You must be obsessed with hating her if you honestly believe she was the only problem and that the antagonist and the plot itself were without issue.

I don’t think EQG being canon or not is the problem, more that Starlight is becoming more prevalent in both the pony universe and EQG’s. I don’t personally care for EQG but I can understand how fans of it can feel a little ripped off by the special.

The movies are on a different level. For one, they are animated, just like the show, making them feel more connected. Plus, the comics have different issues. Many of their plots have been rendered non Canon (such as the Siege of the Crystal Empire) because stuff happened in Canon that completely contradics what happened on those comics. When things like that happen, it’s easy to point to that as evidence of them being non Canon.

But EqG doesn’t have that issue. While the main show admittedly has yet to be influenced by this “spin-off”, nothing happened in the movies or specials that contradics anything from the show. Do bottom line, EqG still stands on a position where fans can freely consider it Canon or Non-Canon, and there’s no argument to prove either instance wrong. Thus, many - specially those who like it - WILL consider EqG Canon, and there’s nothing that can be done about it.

I haven’t even watch the specials. If people don’t read comics and discuss their behavior as canon event, then why would people treat EQG movies differently if they are as much “canon”?
