@nightshroud96 Ironically (or unironically) and Unfortunately, the finale leak proved why as the fans sent death threats to Jim Miller over something he couldn’t control.
@tehwatever
The writers seem to be picky on which feedback to address and such.
I remember seeing many fans hating how Luna and Celestia were handled, but in season 9 the writers kind of screwed with them with the retirement crap and thinking the writers addressed the problem of the sisters being “useless”.
Though the writers missed the actual problem, when some villain attacks its Luna and Celestia either kept getting sidelined(no, simply holding something back like in Beginning Of The End doesn’t count as fixing that) or taken out if they do get involved, its been happening too many times(and the finale repeated the same issue big time). Not that the Royal Sisters are literally “useless”
@Pudding Pone
…and one of my gripes about the final two seasons are that they focus on the M6 at the expense of all the characters they introduced in the previous episode. I really think that the writers were not given the memo that S9 would be the end until after a slim majority of S8 had already been written.
@reversalmushroom
6 and 7 was very Glimmerrific I agree. She was probably a deuteragonist.
My guess is that 8 and 9 woulda veen eben more Glimmerung, but considering we had very loud ppl asking Glimmer to gtfo, S8 had to bench Glimmer almost entirely to prevent ppl from burning the series. In S9 she comes back as a side character.
The season 8 finale treats Starlight Glimmer very badly in how she gets to do absolutely nothing and completely misses out on helping while literally everyone else gets to be part of the adventure, and she only has 2 episodes in season 9, so I would not count the finale panel as accurate. Seasons 6-7 and maybe 5 are the only ones that could be counted as “seasons of Starlight Glimmer”.
@DerpyFast
Those are arcs, and they’re only the focus of a few episodes, they are not a main plot. Besides, those arcs aren’t really stories, as they have no central conflict. Each episode within them is self contained and has it’s own central conflict which is resolved by the end. All they are is a series of minor setups and payoffs.
@DerpyFast
There is no ongoing story. There are changes to the status quo, but that does not constitute an ongoing story. Again, this show is episodic.
@Ebalosus
Just like anything - there is good filler, and there is bad filler. Although you could also refer to such episodes as “Bottle episodes”. Although again, “Blink” is no longer a bottle episode because it connects to the rest of the canon through all the lore about Weeping Angels.
Definitions can be altered over time, if you’re willing to let them be. No language exists in a temporal vacuum. xD
It’s even stupider with “filler” IMO, because there has been some truly exceptional “filler” in the past, and just because something is filler, does not automatically mean that it is bad.

Hmmmmh. I blame the fans.
Yea, this one you posted is the original, the one I made is just an edit, I’m not sure who made the original one.
I think some people are just butt hurt that the show is focusing on other characters besides the mane 6 you know world building.
Do they not know what OCs even are?
Op said in the previously post the student six were oc inserts.
Basically new characters
What OC inserts?
Not really. Few setups maybe, but every setup has a worthwhile payoff.
I guess fewer and less satisfying payoffs would be more accurate then.

There were several ongoing stories.
The Gala arc, Rarity growing her business, Rainbow Dash joining The Wonderbolts, Fluttershy becoming more assertive, the key episodes.
I think we might have to agree to disagree.

There’s still an ongoing story. Season Two does very little to advance it, so as a season, it fits the definition of filler.
It’s even stupider with “filler” IMO, because there has been some truly exceptional “filler” in the past, and just because something is filler, does not automatically mean that it is bad.
yup
You mean like how “Mary Sue” now means “character I don’t like violating muh headcanon”?
Filler does seem to be turning into a bit of a buzzword for something I don’t like
