Frustration in Excelsis
Notoriously Divine Tagger - Consistently uploads images above and beyond the minimum tag requirements. And/or additionally, bringing over the original description from the source if the image has one. I’m going to have to wait for my usual post-airing rewatch before I formulate any hard opinions, but thoughts so far:
 
Nice to see the secondary cast get some focus. Particularly nice to see Trixie get the chance to be something other than obnoxious.
 
Maud is the absolute best <3
 
Seeing the Mirror Pool again was unexpected. Nice to know it was put under magical lock and key, though – that was a perfect example of quick, offhand exposition that doesn’t impact the flow of the story or take up excessive amounts of time while also stoppering up potential plot holes.
 
… and that journal at the end is pretty transparently a tie-in to next week’s finale. Not that I’m complaining, mind.

    It was a very laidback and slow episode, but still decent.

Well that was very sweet and heartfelt, with some amazing character interactions. Poor Glimmy getting left out felt bad. GJ unblocking the Mirror Pool though. Now who knows what kind of nonsense that will be used for. Trixie was being extra hammy and cute in this one. Maud was cute as well, and always a welcome addition. These are the kind of episodes I really like. It’s hard to explain, but the slower stuff that focuses more on the relationships and emotional development of the characters really makes me feel like I’m watching a worthwhile show. And that book at the end. Time for the finale plot MacGuffin to make its appearance!

On another note, I like the idea that Ponyville’s surroundings are basically Swiss cheese underground. Rarity’s gem cave connects to Maud’s lost world, which in turn apparently connects to the Mirror Pool’s cave… I can’t help but wonder if the Diamond Dogs’ warrens are going to show up too, one of these days.
 
Please let the Diamond Dogs show up again one of these days.

Interesting fact: the last two episodes have made it in my top 5 for the season. Also, four episodes from season 7 I would put in my top ten favorite MLP episodes of all time.
