-> Given to verified artists with a public link who have a total of 100/250/500/1000 images (respectively) under their artist tag, regardless of who uploaded the images. These badges accumulate instead of “upgrade”, so an artist who has drawn 1000 images on this site will have all four badges, for example. doesn’t count for exploitable memes and the like.

The “black and red” tag was like 90% OCs. The rest were pictures of Tirek, Sombra, and Shadow the Hedgehog. So for consistency I just removed the tag from such pictures (it’s dumb to tag what colors a character is - we don’t tag pictures of Twilight as “Purple”), and then aliased “black and red” -> “red and black oc”

The “pony” tag really isn’t used that much, because after all - this is a site for pony fanart. It’s kinda the expectation that most of the images here are going to be ponies. It’s the same reason we don’t tag images as “fanart” - that’s the default. It makes sense to tag exceptions to that (anthro/humanized/equestria girls for “pony”; meme/screencap/merchendise for “fanart”).
 
Anyway, I’m not going to set those implications for now. If you think that the “pony” tag should be used more heavily, this thread isn’t the really the ideal place to debate it, so I’d recommend creating a thread about it instead, and seeing if there’s enough interest to try to revive that tag.

Also, I measured with a stop watch, aliasing takes about a minute per every 900 images.

It won’t break anything, it’ll just take forever and add some extra load to the server. And usually, when the site is actually shut down for maintenance, it’s because they don’t want anything going on in the database.

I’m just guessing here, but I think the reason some tags “persist” even when empty is because there’s still references to them, such as being in a watch list or filter. Again, don’t quote me on that.

Don’t get me wrong, we can do large merges if there’s a lot of images on both sides, or a lot of duplication. But 80,000 images worth of nothing-to-all merges is a lot of extra load on the server.

The “crystal” one is done, but unfortunately I’m gonna have to say no for “alternate hairstyle” for the time being.
 
Don’t get me wrong - it’s a valid request, but aliases are not instant - the site has to reindex every image on either side of the merge, so the more images involved in an alias, the longer it takes. 8000 images in the “winning” tag times ten merges, and we’re looking at nearly 80,000 image reindexes. Since none of the “source” tags are used anymore (thank you for that), that’s a lot of processing for the server to do. I’m hoping instead people will just see that all the different tags are not in use anymore and just instinctively go with “alternate hairstyle”.
 
If the other tags keep popping up, then we can alias them on a case-by-case basis. But for now, trying to do them all at once with zero images on the source side probably isn’t gonna be the wisest thing to do.

Due to policy, we cannot change usernames once an account has public activity (comments, uploads, forum posts, etc) outside of extenuating circumstances.

That seems to be another mess. It seems that “Tails” is used fairly heavily to mean the sonic character, so I’m thinking it’d probably be best to just remove that tag from the few images that aren’t sonic related, and then alias that to whatever his real name is.

Yeah, we’ve been doing that for characters with multiple names (same goes for Minuette/Colgate, for example). I’m sure there’s a good reason for that, but I’m not certain what that would be.

I’m getting really tired of everyone tagwarring over Ember related tags and manually re-tagging everything because they think Tag A isn’t as funny/clever/witty as Tag B. It’s been aliased back to Princess Emboner.
 
If anyone wants it to be different, they’re free to start a discussion on it, and then have a moderator set an alias if a consensus is reached. But all this manual bulk re-tagging needs to stop, it’s just gonna end up with multiple redundant tags and images missing tags that they should have.

I’ve added “BDSM” as an implication to orgasm denial, forced orgasm, and the chastity cages. “Spanking” can have many non-BDSM uses, while bondage and crotch ropes aren’t necessarily always BDSM (just the “B”) - they can be used for fairly vanilla play as well.

But a ton of people don’t know about the “Derpibooru exclusive” tag, especially if they’re not Derpibooru-exclusive artists and are just uploading a one-off image that they didn’t want to post on their Tumblr/DA.
 
Likewise, screenshots from the show really don’t have any source URLs, as they’re just captured from video. And when there’s a season running, that’s easily 100+ images uploaded without any possible source.

I believe when the site migrated to a new database engine back in October, the background pony IDs changed.
 
The thing is, references to a background pony in a comment are just written in the post itself. I don’t think there’d be any way to bulk edit posts to update the IDs to what they are now. But that’s all six months ago and earlier.
