I’m not saying online dating is better, just that it’s no worse than in person dating.

Courtship behavior is already based on pretty limited interactions. You form a pretty solid mental and emotional image of someone in only about 15 minutes of interacting.

The idea that in person dates give you this deep, fairytale like connection is only for the movies.

I’m really sorry to hear that. I used to have two ladies, both seperately, have interest in me. One which I turned her down since I thought that she’s annoying to deal with back in High School and the time after the convention where she gave me her phone number which I lost it already and I never saw her again after that. She’s Pinkamena Diane Pie and I swear I had actual women trouble at that point.

Just recently, a girl I worked with told a friend that she thought I was cute and wanted to date me, and my friend gave me the girl’s Discord contact info. I sent her a friend invite on Discord and waited two days, but when she responded, she very apologetically said she had started a relationship during that time. I believe her FWIW, it really does just seem like a case of crappy timing, but it does sadden me because it’s probably gonna be the only ever time I will get to meet someone organically and they express interest in me first.

I just really friggin’ hate online dating. It’s essentially a case where everyone judges you based solely on your appearance in your pictures and on your attempts to sum up your life, all your interests, ambitions, goals, beliefs, etc. into one short paragraph for your description. How the hell am I supposed to feel any warmth whatsoever from that?

That’s kinda my point, we really don’t allow relationships to evolve naturally, we’re always keeping each other at a fearful arm’s length.

“Organic” dating is a myth. Statistically speaking, very rarely do people find partners when not actively looking, aside from during school/college.

In this respect, online dating is exactly the same as traditional dating. Which is specifically seeking out a partner in a shared space. Whether it’s a bar or an app, the medium is irrelevant.

Don’t get me wrong, the Internet is great and I’m happy for it. But it feels like an indirect side effect is that the opportunities to actually meet people organically are shrinking. And I hate online dating, although I am speaking as someone who A. finds online dating to be highly impersonal and fake, and B. has never had any success with it, so I’m obviously biased.
