I think that one has more validity partly due to filters and partly due to Twilight having switched races during the show run. There’s a fair amount of room for false positives of non-Princess Twilight hanging around alicorns in images.

In seriousness: I understand people use the princess Twilight tag. Though that was for when we weren’t actually tagging things such as Alicorn or Unicorn to differentiate the different levels of Twilight. Now the tag is really only useful for indicating that Twilight is or isn’t an alicorn while in the presence of the other Princesses. So I’m not actually certain it needs to be tagged at times other than that~ It’s got a pretty niche role now.
 
I’m not suggesting changing it right now or anything. But it is slowly becoming obsolete.

She’s probably the one character that interacts with the princesses the most on screen.

It’s Twilight Sparkle in her coronation dress wearing her crown, of course she’s Princess Twilight. That tag has never been limited to twilight’s pony self since the start, it just has to be clear her human self is also a princess. Mind you, that’s usually through her humanized self having wings, but still, there’s plenty of examples otherwise.

Yeah, Princess Twilight would never lose it’s intended purpose of identifying twilight as the alicorn among other alicorns. Similar to the other character specific alicorn tags. [Raricorn, etc]  
But it likely doesn’t need to be used on just images of alicorn twilight alone[with no other princesses]. Could if people wanted. But if she’s tagged Alicorn, then she’s identified.
 
And it really shouldn’t apply to humanized versions of Twilight that aren’t winged humanizations, since then it’s not even identifying the correct thing about her.

The only time it would be excluded is if it isn’t Alicorn Twilight.

Honestly, the tag is a misnomer and probably should’ve been “alicorn twilight” from the beginning (in fact, that wouldn’t be a half bad alias for it). But it was created in the midst of drama, and so there’s a bit of euphemism in how that tag got its name.  
I agree that the rise of species tags is making this tag less relevant, but hardly less useful - after all, with the redundancy comes the flexibility to extend the tag to any depiction of Twilight as her post-destiny-fulfilled form, including that pic of her as a wingless human in the coronation dress.
 
Edit (these are becoming standard on my comments, aren’t they?): I wrote this comment before realizing alicorn twilight is already an alias. Point still stands, and it does emphasize how this tag was established so as not to offend the sensibilities of those who didn’t like seeing their favorite purple horse with wings.

But with that, pretty much the only way to find all images of alicorn Twilight would be to search “princess twilight || (twilight sparkle, alicorn, solo)”, which is a lot more complicated than just “princess twilight”.
 
Unless you mean to only use the princess twilight tag when there are other alicorns in the image, in which case it’d be literally impossible (since searching for just “twilight sparkle, alicorn” would undoubtedly return many results for unicorn Twi with another alicorn in the picture).
 
You underestimate the usefulness of “particular quality of a specific character” tags.

Heck, at this point it should be a tag for pointing out unicorn Twilight, since that’s actually rareer~
 
It’s like tagging all of the images of Luna with “Not S1 Luna”.

But you all know what this means right? Alicorn Twilight ruined everything and made it all overly complicated~

I’ve been saying from the start that not tagging unicorn twilight and treating her alicorn form as the “special case” was dumb, but noooo, people bitched to no end. Practically every “why didn’t we do this obvious thing this way” can be answered by “I was going to, then people had a shitfit”.

Please don’t remove the princess twilight tag. Zeb already explained why not better than I can.

It would be pretty stupid to put all twilight pictures under the same tag. I mean haven’t you guys seperated tags for less?
